LaSalle Waterfront Disctrict Plan
July 25, 2024: The LaSalle Waterfront District Plan has been postponed. We will be back to you with an update about the waterfront project in the near future. We look forward to the opening of the ice skate trail that is scheduled for late December.
We thank those in our community who attended the LaSalle Waterfront District Plan Open House on November 22, 2023. The focus of the public open house was to share important information about the project, answer questions, and gather feedback to develop a draft set of ideas for the Waterfront District area.
The consultant team presented an overview of the initiative, the study process, a summary of existing limitations and opportunities, as well as a range of ideas from elsewhere that could be used to create a draft vision for the LaSalle Waterfront District Plan.
We know waterfronts are tremendously important, valued places, and this is especially true for LaSalle. Our waterfront is fundamental to the Town’s identity and quality of life. It provides a connection to nature and a variety of opportunities for recreation, celebration, and entertainment. As a destination and an asset, our waterfront can be positioned to support the local economy, Front Road businesses in particular. The LaSalle Waterfront District Plan (LWDP) is a project that is being undertaken by the municipality to support and encourage the broader vitality of the 60 acre park, as well as the Front Road corridor.

The Town has retained Urban Strategies Inc. to assist with the development of the LaSalle Waterfront District Plan (LWDP). Urban Strategies has planned waterfronts in cities big and small throughout North America and the UK. Urban Strategies has assembled a broader team to undertake this project including Colliers who specializes in land economic and real estate development, as well as ERA Architects who specialize in the cultural heritage value of landscapes. This team has been strategically assembled to best understand the complexity of issues along our waterfront. By engaging the community, the team in partnership with the Town, will build a broadly supported long-term vision for the waterfront area.
The overall Master Plan developed in 2020 started this process of envisioning a new future for the Town's waterfront lands. The LWDP will build upon the work completed to date, develop a strategy for lands under municipal ownership, as well as make recommendations for the long-term vitality of the Front Road corridor. This project is a high priority for the Town as the development of LaSalle Landing can reinforce the outcomes identified in LaSalle's 2020 Strategic Plan.
Some Things to Think About:
- LaSalle Landing requires strategic, ‘big picture’ thinking, beyond traditional placemaking.
- How can public and private investments enhance the Town's unique heritage and support creativity and entrepreneurship to strengthen the local economy?
- How can LaSalle Landing build upon and reinforce ideas around community history and identity?
- How can the land and aquatic resources be best positioned to support resiliency?
- How can LaSalle Landing and the Front Road corridor become a place that residents want to enjoy, and tourists want to visit?
