The lake and river levels in the area are very high. Areas along the Detroit River, River Canard and Turkey Creek are experiencing some overland flooding. The LaSalle Trail located off Matchette Road heading into Vince Marcotte Park is closed due to flooding. Proceed with caution if driving near the LaSalle Boat Ramp.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority is reminding everyone to please stay away from standing water. The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping breakwalls, and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing, standing water, and shoreline/breakwall areas.
With more rain in the forecast on the already wet ground conditions, it will likely cause higher than normal runoff volumes causing ponding/standing water conditions and will exacerbate areas that were previously flooded. The Essex Region Conservation Authority and municipal staff continue to monitor the water levels in the area.
